Incredible Edibles School of the Week | Mercy Primary School, Sligo

April 20, 2022

Michael Geary

Congratulations to teacher Jeanette Towey, of Mercy Primary School, Co. Sligo, and her senior infants class. They are our latest Incredible Edibles School of the Week.

In task three of Incredible Edibles, Ms. Towey's class was busy documenting the progress of the seedlings in their polytunnel.

They learned all about where their food came from and are really excited to grow and eat their own food.

The children brainstormed about plants, after a while they had learned every part of the plants.

Obair Iontach, well done to all!

Ms Towey told Agri Aware:

"So far, we have planted our seedlings in our school polytunnel. The children each have their own seedling which they planted into the pots by themselves with the help of teachers.

"We have documented the growth of the seedlings and we are noticing how much they are growing.  The class have also learned about Food Origin, and where food comes from. We learned about all of the different parts of the plant, including a strawberry plant.

"The children were able to brainstorm their knowledge of what they already knew about plants and we then carried out an activity where the children put the parts of a plant on to a diagram."
