10 venues, 13 events and 4,000 students later the Agri Aware Farm Walk and Talk series has come to a successful close for another year.

The Farm Walk and Talk series ran for four weeks and witnessed an increase of over 1,000 students on last year participating.

Over the years students have had memorable Farm Walk and Talk days, from observing cows being milked, learning about the different breeds of cattle, examining soil profiles, attending sustainability talks and getting hands-on in the live lambing of sheep, this year was no different. The Agri Aware team took to the road across 10 counties enjoying the opportunity to meet patrons, students, teachers and presenters face to face.

The entire Agri Aware team would like to express our gratitude to everyone who got involved in making the series such a resounding success.

Speaking about the Farm Walk and Talk series, Agri Aware chairman Alan Jagoe said: “Agri Aware’s Farm Walk and Talk gives Leaving Certificate Agriculture Science students the opportunity to see the theory they learn in class put into practice.

“Students got an insight into the day-to-day workings on a farm and the hard work that goes along with it.

“We hope, as another Walk and Talk series comes to an end, that all the students that we saw left with a greater understanding and appreciation of agriculture.”

The Farm Walk and Talk stopped at Teagasc colleges in Mountbellew, Clonakilty, Ballyhaise, Grange and Gurteen, The Irish Farmers Journal Farm in Tullamore, Teagasc Research Colleges at Moorepark, Kildalton and Salesian College Pallaskenry and UCD Lyons Farm.

The series of events is a longstanding collaboration between Agri Aware, Teagasc, UCD, the Irish Farmers Journal, and I.A.S.T.A.

All schools that attended Farm Walk and Talk got access to a suite of educational videos from a variety of contributors alongside the comprehensive study notes.
