AgCredible Academy Event | Irish Agriculture | Communicating our unique story

November 10, 2021

Michael Geary

Irish Agriculture | Communicating our unique story, was our first AgCredible event of 2021. We were delighted to welcome such great engagement and positivity on the day.

Agri Aware Chairman, Alan Jagoe opened the day at the Killeshin Hotel saying “Today is a great day to be bringing farmers together to communicate our unique story. Environment and agriculture is a journey not a destination, we can and will and must do better.”

Ambition

Pat Murphy from Teagasc reminded us that the solution is 130,000 farmers taking individual action and changing their behaviour to improve the environment.

Irish Farmers Journal Editor, Justin McCarthy spoke of the importance in showing ambition and displaying how much carbon is sequestered on our farms rather than talking about it. Be credible and verifiable, not in abstract but in fact.

Alltech Ireland Marketing Manager, Elaine Keaveny brought us through how to communicate our message to the general public. “We need to remain balanced and grounded in fact, while maintaining that emotional connection with our audience.”

Engagement

The engagement and discussion from the floor were excellent, in particular during the panel session chaired by Thom Malone, with dairy farmer, Harold Kingston, Maxine Hyde from Ballymaloe Foods and vet, Hazell Mullins.

As a closing statement, Cathal McCormack, Country Manager, Alltech Ireland reminded us that “Farmers are the solution not the problem, we need communicate this to the public.”

COMPETITION

At the event we also launched the AgCredible Social Media Competition, where we ask people to tell their story of Irish Agriculture, your farm, business or role through a series of posts on social media for the month of November. Include as part of the above, how you have become more sustainable on your farm, in your role, or in your business.

The competition runs from the 3rd to the 30th of November 2021, and we ask you to post regularly on Instagram and/or Twitter along with engaging with the AgriAware posts on their Instagram and/or Twitter accounts for example, the #DidYouKnow series of posts. The competition is open on both Instagram and Twitter. An external judging panel will pick the winner. The winner will be announced in mid-December.

The use of #AgCredible is mandatory in order to be included in the competition.

The prize is a trip to the Alltech ONE Conference in Kentucky in May 2022. Full delegate pass, flights and three nights’ accommodation for one person.

We are thrilled that Agri Aware and Alltech continue to work together on the AgCredible initiative as we try to help those in Agriculture tell their positive stories about sustainability and the science behind the practice.
