View »The results are finally in as Dublin's Botanic Garden hosted the five runners-up and five winning schools during the Meet the Spuds Prize-Giving Ceremony on Tuesday. All ten schools were awarded prizes for their outstanding participation in the Meet the Spuds challenge and helped launch this year’s week-long new potato campaign. Children got to tour the gardens and meet Trevor Sargent, TD, Minister for Food and Horticulture before the results were announced by Agri Aware Chairwoman, Mairead Lavery. Of the 2000 schools who registered to take part in the challenge the five winning schools and five runners up were:

2000 schools have been feverishly sowing, watering and maintaining their Colleen potato crop since February 2008, but alas, the time of reckoning has dawned! Only ten schools can reach the final and attend the prestigious National Prize Giving Ceremony in the Botanic Gardens, Dublin 9 next Tuesday 24 June. The standard of scrapbooks was phenomenal and the judging panel (Bord Bia, Teagasc, Dept. of Agriculture and IFA) had no mean feat in selecting a mere ten schools from the mountain of entries.

Karolina Olkowicz, St Fiachra’s National School, Montrose, Dublin 5 was announced the overall winner of the competition.
